Weight Loss Medications

Weight loss medication plays a crucial role in treating various weight and health issues. The right treatment plan should be tailored to each person's unique needs.

At Inception Telehealth & Wellness, we utilize data-based testing and the latest research to create customized treatment plans for you.

Our Weight Loss Medication Process

Our process for identifying suitable weight loss medication involves several key steps to ensure your treatment works effectively and safely:

  1. Initial Consultation: Schedule a virtual consultation with us from anywhere in the U.S. We conduct a thorough medical history review and discuss your health goals, concerns, and symptoms.
  2. Assessment and Evaluation:  Blood tests and other relevant diagnostic tests are ordered to assess hormone levels and other health indicators. We work with many labs across the U.S. which makes it simple and easy for you to get bloodwork done nearby. We also assess your diet, exercise habits, and lifestyle factors.
  3. Diagnosis: Once the test results are available, we analyze them to diagnose any hormonal imbalances or health issues that could be contributing to weight problems or other symptoms.
  4. Treatment Planning: We will discuss the findings with you. If hormone therapy is appropriate, we explain the types of hormones that could be used, their benefits, risks, and side effects. We may also recommend lifestyle changes, dietary modifications, and exercise plans to complement the hormone therapy.
  5. Prescription: We prescribe the appropriate medication. Your prescribed medication will be shipped to your front door within a week. This could include bioidentical hormones or other weight loss medications. The prescription details, including dosage and administration instructions, are provided to you. All medications prescribed by us are formulated by U.S.-based pharmaceutical companies.
  6. Monitoring and Follow-Up: You start the medication under our supervision. Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor your response to the treatment. Blood tests and other evaluations may be repeated to adjust the treatment plan as needed.

Types of Weight Loss Medications

Different types of medications are used to treat various weight loss issues:

Ozempic (semaglutide)

Ozempic, known by its generic name semaglutide, is a medication that has gained attention for its potential in weight management, specifically in people with obesity or overweight issues.

Initially developed and approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, Ozempic works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. As a result, it helps reduce hunger and calorie intake, leading to weight loss.

It slows down gastric emptying, which means your stomach takes longer to empty its contents into the small intestine. This helps you feel fuller for a longer period, reducing the urge to eat more frequently or in larger quantities.

Ozempic improves insulin sensitivity and lowers blood sugar levels, which is beneficial if you have type 2 diabetes. However, it's this effect on appetite and food intake that has made it a popular choice for those looking to lose weight.

Clinical trials have shown promising results regarding Ozempic's effectiveness in weight management. In these studies, participants who used Ozempic experienced significant weight loss compared to those who were given a placebo.

It's important to note, though, that the best results were observed when Ozempic was combined with lifestyle modifications like a balanced diet and regular physical activity.

It's typically prescribed to people who have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. Side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, and constipation, are common, especially when starting the medication.

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) is a relatively new pharmaceutical agent that has garnered significant attention for its potential in weight loss, in addition to its primary FDA-approved use for the management of type 2 diabetes.

This medication functions as a dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The dual-action approach of Tirzepatide is instrumental in regulating blood sugar levels and promoting weight loss by enhancing insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon secretion, slowing gastric emptying, and reducing appetite.

Clinical trials have shown promising results, indicating that tirzepatide may lead to substantial weight loss in individuals, potentially more than currently available GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as liraglutide, used for weight management.

Phentermine

Phentermine is a prescription medication that has been widely used as a weight loss aid. It is typically prescribed for short-term use in individuals who have not achieved their desired weight loss through diet and exercise alone. It functions primarily as an appetite suppressant, aiding weight loss by reducing feelings of hunger.

It works by stimulating the release of certain brain chemicals that manipulate the mind's appetite control center, thereby decreasing appetite. This can help you consume fewer calories, which, when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, can lead to significant weight loss.

Clinical trials and studies have shown that phentermine can effectively aid in weight reduction, especially in the short term. Patients using phentermine have reported more significant weight loss in comparison to those who were on a placebo.

Like all medications, phentermine can have side effects. The most common side effects include increased heart rate, dry mouth, restlessness, insomnia, and constipation. Due to its stimulant properties, it can also increase blood pressure.

BHRT/HRT

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) have been explored for their potential roles in managing weight, particularly during menopause or other hormonal changes.

BHRT involves the use of hormones that are chemically identical to those the human body produces. HRT typically refers to the use of synthetic or natural hormones that may not be identical to human hormones but serve similar functions.

Weight gain, especially around the abdomen, is a common issue during menopause, often attributed to the decline in estrogen levels. Estrogen is believed to help regulate body weight, and its reduction can lead to a slower metabolism, increased appetite, and changes in how the body distributes fat.

By restoring hormonal balance, BHRT and HRT can potentially aid in managing these metabolic changes. Some studies suggest that estrogen replacement therapy might help in reducing abdominal fat and improving insulin sensitivity, which are crucial factors in maintaining a healthy weight.

Hormone therapy should not be viewed as a standalone solution for weight loss. A holistic approach, including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and lifestyle modifications, remains essential for effective weight management.

TRT

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a medical treatment primarily used to address issues related to low testosterone levels in men, a condition known as hypogonadism.

Low testosterone levels have been associated with increased body fat, particularly abdominal fat, and decreased muscle mass. This hormonal imbalance can negatively impact metabolic health, leading to conditions like obesity, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes.

TRT works by supplementing the body with testosterone to restore levels closer to normal, which can potentially lead to changes in body composition.

Several studies have indicated that TRT can aid in weight loss and improve body composition by increasing muscle mass and reducing body fat.

TRT may have a positive effect on energy levels and exercise capacity, encouraging more physical activity, which is a key component in any weight loss regimen. Improved mood and motivation, also associated with balanced testosterone levels, can further support lifestyle changes related to weight loss.

Peptide Therapy

Peptide therapy for weight loss represents a new and evolving area in weight management and wellness.

Peptides, which are short chains of amino acids, naturally occur in the body and play a crucial role in biological functions. Peptide therapy involves the use of synthetic peptides that mimic natural peptides to achieve specific health outcomes, including weight loss.

Peptide therapy aids in weight loss through the regulation of appetite, metabolism, and fat breakdown. Certain peptides are known to stimulate the release of hormones that can increase metabolism and enhance the body's ability to burn fat.

Some peptides have been reported to improve insulin sensitivity, which is a crucial factor in weight management. Improved insulin sensitivity can help in managing blood sugar levels, reducing cravings, and preventing the accumulation of abdominal fat.

It's important to note that peptide therapy should be considered as part of a weight management plan that includes a healthy diet and regular exercise. Peptides are not a standalone solution for weight loss but can potentially enhance the results of lifestyle changes.

The field of peptide therapy for weight loss is still relatively new, and more research is needed to fully understand the long-term effects and efficacy of these treatments.

Peptide therapy should be approached with caution and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. It's essential to consult with a doctor or a specialist in peptide therapy to determine the most appropriate and safe treatment plan based on your health needs and goals.
